About us
Contrary to the common and consistent practice of establishing an observatory (or research centre) before the beginning of any actual research, whose survey tools change according to various funding, our analysis stands out as something different. As a matter of fact, in this case research came first, resulting initially with the obtainment of the financing and consequently the need to preserve this line of investigation with the experience gained.
Therefore, the creation of the Social Observatory on Development and Crime in Sardinia was indeed the only natural outcome, especially taking into consideration the involvement of several institutional branches within the territory as well as the vocation of the so-called "third mission" of the projects developed so far.
Since 2004, our research on crime’s changes and alterations has always benefited from public funding, such as Regione Autonoma della Sardegna and Fondazione di Sardegna. From 2013, the latter has shown its interest in the establishment of the Observatory by both financing its foundation and by strengthening it in the following years.
Moreover, the Regione Autonoma della Sardegna has also financially supported a study on the detection of social indicators with the final aim of developing an effective Information System in order to pursue the fight against crime (L.R. 07/2007).
